LAYING A FOUNDATION FOR PRAYING AND PROPHESYING , BUILDING UP YOUR INNER MAN.

Building up your inner man

12 STATEMENTS OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS

As a son or daughter of our Father it is our goal to practically experience the grace of the New Testament manifest in our spiritual lives.

Yet all of us experience hinderances to reach this goal. Some of these hinderances are due to inner weaknesses in the soul and recurring sins and others are due to attacks of the enemy through various means and circumstances.

What we are longing for is to live a holy life that testifies to the grace of the New Testament.

If we study the whole of the New Testament, we find that there are 12 verses, each of them talks about a different work and effect of the blood of Jesus; all of which are so essential for sanctifying one’s life and transforming it into Christ’s image. This in turn leads to the full manifestation of salvation – for which the Son of God emptied Himself and came to our world!

When we take these 12 scriptures and begin to pray them daily, this leads to great life-changing outcomes. Those who have prayed them daily testified that they have indeed found a special grace and strength.

The fruits of praying these verses are seen when prayed regularly or daily. As you can see it only takes a few minutes a day to pray through the 12 verses on the power of the blood of Jesus.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE INNER MAN INTO THE IMAGE OF CHRIST.

The goal is the complete transformation of the inner man, the soul, into the image and likeness of Christ. We all go through this process of having to overcome so much within the inner man. In our immaturity we sometimes have so much spiritual energy and strength and then at other times we feel frustrated, low and as though we are spiritually paralyzed. This alternation from one state to the other could happen at very close or even successive intervals. Yet our Father in heaven does not want us to live in this constant state of spiritual ups and downs. This reveals that there is much to overcome in the inner man.

We know that the grace from the New Covenant is there for us and that we can overcome and go on to maturity and reach the point where full salvation is achieved in our inner man, our souls.

We need the revelation of the ‘new man’ as the apostle Paul put it. The ‘new man’ is a real spiritual being. Our outer man is the visible reflection of the unseen inner man.

Just as the outer man has different members (head, eyes, ears etc.) and each part has its function and role; similarly, the inner man also has the same members and they also have the same specific functions. Yet the functions of the inner man are related to the spiritual realm, not the natural one.

Just like when you were a baby and your physical body had to grow up to full size and strength, in the same way the inner man, also has to grow up and the parts of the inner man have to grow up and mature.

Romans 7:22

22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,

2 Corinthians 4:16

16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

Ephesians 3:16

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

Ephesians 4:22-23

22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

Colossians 3:9-10

Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—

The growth and development of the inner man is practically achieved through all the means of grace and especially through ‘prophesying to the members of the inner man.’

What is prophesying and how can it be done?

Prophesying can be an aid to our spiritual life.

1 Corinthians 14:3

But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

Prophesying helps in realizing God’s will and perceiving the correct picture that God desires for our spiritual life.

In other words, it helps in developing the members of the inner spiritual man and the manifestation of this inner man as an integrated spiritual being in a wholesome form according to God’s plan and economy for man.

Ezekiel 37:1-14  (A complete biblical example of prophesying)

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry. He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O LordGod, You know.” Again He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.’ Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the Lord.’”

So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life.”’” 10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people. 14 I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.’”

  1. People of Israel were in captivity in Babylon.
  2. God showed Israel to Ezekiel as dry bones in the graves.
  3. Actual visible image of Israel – a real people who are with the prophet Ezekiel in captivity in Babylon.
  4. Spiritual image (as seen by God) Israel as dry dead bones.
  5. God asks Ezekiel to prophesy to these bones, that is, to the true inner state of Israel which they were unaware of.
  6. When Ezekiel the prophet prophesied, the situation started to change resulting in the appearance of another great and glorious image, and that is: an exceedingly great army (Ezekiel 37:10)
  7. Israel thought they were dry bones, hope is lost and they are cut off. But by God’s grace and His visitation through the ministry of ‘prophesying’ they became ‘an exceedingly great army!’
  8. Yes not all of us are prophets that prophesy over nations, people, a land, a church etc. Yet we can all prophesy over ourselves, that which is related to our own lives because the Holy Spirit dwells in us and has anointed us. (2 Cor. 1:21; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 John 2:20,27)
  9. What we need to do is begin to prophesy over all the members of the inner man, the new man inside. The inner man also has parts, and each part needs to overcome, be set free and mature and be able to function just like God wants each part to function.
  10. For example we all have physical eyes, but we also have eyes as part of the inner man. Matthew 6:22 The need to have a good single eye. An eye that looks in one direction, according to the original language. That we can have pure and straight eyes directed towards heaven and eternity so that we would always be mindful of fearing God and keeping ourselves pure. When the inner spiritual eye is fully formed and matures, it grants the person holy control over his physical eye on the one hand and grants him spiritual insight (1 John 5:20) on the other hand.
  11. You can see from the notes that they have been divided into the different parts of the inner man and scriptures have been found that represent that particular part of the inner man. So that we can prophesy accurately over each and every part of the inner man.

COMMENTS AND CLARIFICATIONS FOR USING THESE PRAYERS.

Repeating (meditating on) verses from the Bible

There is a great need for us to meditate on a biblical text and this involves ‘chewing it over.’

Prophets versus prophesying

There is a difference between the ministry of a prophet (both Old and New Testament prophets’) and the gift of prophesying. The ministry of the prophet involves telling about future things, whereas prophesying according to 1 Corinthians 14:3  is primarily for ‘edification,’ the edification of the inner spiritual life.

Why this particular order of the prayers over the parts of the inner man?

We start with the ‘heart’ because ‘out of it spring the issues of life’

( Proverbs 4:23)

The early church fathers taught about the importance of keeping our hearts watchful.

Next is the ‘city of the soul’ as the soul was created to be a throne for Christ.

Every king has a place or a ‘city of the king.’ The bible calls the city of God the King: Jerusalem (Matthew 5:35 Ezekiel 16:1-14 Jeremiah 2:2).

According to the early fathers of the Church, the redeemed soul is the bride of Christ and a place of His reign; it is the inner Jerusalem!

There are many scriptures that speak about purifying ourselves from ‘within’ (i.e. the soul) from various idols that may creep into it.

Genesis 35:2

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods which are among you, and purify yourselves and change your garments;

Isaiah 30:22

22 And you will defile your graven images overlaid with silver, and your molten images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing, and say to them, “Be gone!”

Jeremiah 4:14

14 Wash your heart from evil, O Jerusalem,
That you may be saved.
How long will your wicked thoughts
Lodge within you?

After the section on the heart, city of the soul and the inner Jerusalem, the next pages deal with each member of the inner man and their function. There are some sections on seemingly unseen parts of the body; yet, they are totally perceived and encountered in our practical reality. E.g. ‘the conscious and unconscious thoughts’ and ‘the inner rooms of the belly’.

Proverbs 20:30

30 Stripes that wound scour away evil,
And strokes reach the innermost parts.

We also see that the joints are important ”but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head – Christ – from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love”

Ephesians 4:15-16

15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

And also: “and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God”

Colossians 2:19

19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.

What is meant by the ‘ornaments’ and the ‘weapons/armor?’

We are called to be the bride of Christ; each bride should have ornaments

Ezekiel 16:11-13

11 I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands and a necklace around your neck. 12 I also put a ring in your nostril, earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, honey and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.

 Song of Solomon 6:4

“You are as beautiful as Tirzah, my darling,
As lovely as Jerusalem,
As awesome as an army with banners.

Song of Solomon 7:6

“How beautiful and how delightful you are,
My love, with all your charms!

We are called to constant spiritual battle during our sojourning in this world

Ephesians 6:10-20

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 [c]With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

 1 Timothy 1:18

18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight,

2 Timothy 2:3

Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

PRACTICAL STEPS

  1. When going through the 12 points regarding the power of the blood of Jesus. It’s good to first read the scripture from each point first then pray each statement once or twice.
  2. It is good to go over the 12 points of the power of the blood of Jesus before prophesying over the different parts of your inner man. This gives you protection before you begin to prophesy over the different parts of your inner man.
  3. You may choose to just go over one part of your inner man each day and slowly work through each part of the inner man. Or you may be given the grace to spend a full hour or so going over each and every part of your inner man in one session of prayer. Be led by the Holy Spirit in this matter regarding your own needs and what is best for you.
  4. You may want to spend a week and take a whole week to go over all the part of the inner man.
  5. Yet there are some that spend an hour each day going over the whole of the inner man each day and have seen great results in the growth of their inner man.
  6. Each scripture can be prayed once, twice or three times depending on how you are led by the Holy Spirit.
  7. PROSTRATIONS – It is suggested to do prostrations at the end of the verses for each member. The purpose is to make this a ‘worship’ time and not just a repetition of the verses. Bowing down before the Lord is a great spiritual experience that kindles our spirits; it is a well-known experience to the early fathers of the church and it is biblical. According to the Hebrew origin, the word ‘worship’ indicates bowing down until the forehead reaches the ground, i.e. prostrating.

This is for the glory of the Lord and the salvation of the souls.
